Anonymous Hacker Group Homing in on Banking Institutions by Launching Operation Black October
The Anonymous hacker group is back in action and this time they have announced in a YouTube video, posted below, of their new campaign called Operation October that will focus efforts on attacking financial and banking sectors.
The Anonymous hacker group has been on the radar screen of many security researchers as well as government agencies across the globe. The efforts of Anonymous in the past have uprooted many secrets and several companies or large entities have succumbed to the hacker group's operations to expose private information or simply hack a website in hopes of garnering attention.
There is no doubt how effective and well established the Anonymous hacker group is, which is why their latest "announcement" has received quite a bit of attention with their plans to take on financial and banking institutions in their Black October campaign.
The Anonymous hacker video (posted below) gives several stern warnings to the public advising folks to take their money out of their banking accounts, stop using all forms of credit and debit cards, pay for items with cash only and spread the word of their new campaign. As creepy as the video may seem, with snippets from various movies or televised broadcasts, the Anonymous hacker group has gained the attention of many, including banks.
Some may speculate on Anonymous' recent Operation Black October campaign that this is their way of attempting to change the way money is used or transacted around the world. Possibly, there is an underlying agenda to eventually utilize alternative money transfer methods, such as Bitcoin, which is an appealing method for hackers to capitalize.
