Avc2011.exe

Posted: April 15, 2011

Avc2011.exe is the primary executable file for the rogue security program Antivirus Clean 2011. Antivirus Clean 2011 creates scans and system alerts with extremely negative and false content to present itself as a necessary anti-malware utility and then redirects you to Antivirus Clean 2011's website for purchase. However, the rogue security program launched by Avc2011.exe can't actually detect any of the threats Antivirus Clean 2011 claims to fix! Avc2011.exe and related malicious files may also attack your PC by hijacking your web-browsing application, shutting down programs, canceling downloads or lowering your security settings. You should delete Avc2011.exe and related threats to your PC by using your preferred anti-malware scanner, since manually deleting Avc2011.exe can cause other harm to your computer.

Antivirus Clean 2011 is Dangerous, Yet Not Particularly Well-Hidden

One of the few bright sides to being infected by Avc2011.exe is that since Antivirus Clean 2011 tries to pretend that Antivirus Clean 2011 is a useful program, Avc2011.exe will not hide itself. Current versions of the Antivirus Clean 2011 infection are documented to store Avc2011.exe in the 'Antivirus Clean 2011' subdirectory of 'Program Files.' If Avc2011.exe isn't visible, then Avc2011.exe may have the Hidden attribute. Hidden files can be seen by changing your file-viewing settings in Windows.

Avc2011.exe is specific to the Antivirus Clean 2011 rogue security program and isn't known for being a part of other rogue security application. However, Antivirus Clean 2011 is a copy of many other threats: AV Security Suite, Antivirus Soft, Antispyware Soft and Antivirus Suite are just some of the prominent examples. Each of these rogue security programs makes the same kind of attacks on your PC.

Avc2011.exe will begin its attack by creating startup entries for the Windows Registry so that its program can launch whenever Windows starts. The Avc2011.exe program will then launch into a fake scan that shows terrible results, as well as displaying alerts like the following:

"Your computer is being attacked by an Internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a Trojan – dropper or similar."

"Security Warning
Application cannot be executed. The file [filename].exe is infected. Do you want to activate your anti-virus software?"

"Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your system might be at risk now."

It's essential to remember that Avc2011.exe's rogue security application can't really detect or remove any infections or other system problems. Do not pay for the Antivirus Clean 2011 product and instead attend to it with all the hostility due to any infection on your PC.

The Higher-Level Dangers Inherent in Avc2011.exe

While Avc 2011.exe is on your computer, Avc2011.exe may also cause other problems:

  • Browser hijacks that change your homepage and search results to force exposure to dangerous websites. Avc2011.exe may also throw up web-browsing roadblocks to stop you from getting to helpful sites.
  • Canceled or interrupted downloads, especially in the case of known anti-virus applications. Renaming the file into a generically allowed one may let you skirt past this attack.
  • Disabled access to various programs. Anti-virus programs and basic system utilities are the most likely to be unceremoniously prevented from running.

Remember that even if you don't see Antivirus Clean 2011 active, Avc2011.exe may still be running as a background process, interfering with everything you do. Attempting to close or delete Avc2011.exe manually may fail, which is why it's suggested that you use a Safe Mode boot to stop Avc2011.exe from running at all. Then you can use your favorite anti-malware program to remove Avc2011.exe and all related problems in one clean sweep.
