Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

ClipCnv is an adware program that uses the bundling distribution method with third-party software. Although ClipCnv doesn't attack your PC and isn't threatening software, ClipCnv may modify your browser's settings in ways that force it to load unwanted advertisements. Accordingly, unless you have unusual reasons to do anything else, deleting ClipCnv through typical anti-adware solutions should be considered a first resort.
Virtual Concessions Stands with Advertisements in Their Popcorn
ClipCnv is one of the multiple adware programs that malware experts traced back to a recent distribution of unofficial installers for Popcorn Time, an online streaming movie service. While the Popcorn Time website wasn't found guilty of bundling software, enterprising third parties used the service's brand name as a way to circulate ClipCnv along with other adware. VideoCnv, Giftssoft, and Giv2U add-ons are some of the other Potentially Unwanted Programs also implicated in this scheme.
The modified installers didn't require consent to modify your Web browser, with Chrome being the most commonly targeted Web browser, so far. Effects of ClipCnv's being installed may include:
- Web page text may suffer through modifications forcing it to host links to advertisements.
- Search results for advertising affiliates may load along with any normal search results.
- Additional graphical advertisements, such as banners, may be injected into Web pages or superimposed on top of their usual content.
This distribution campaign was extremely recent, with incidents occurring as early in November of 2014 as the eleventh, and ongoing since that time.
Clipping ClipCnv out of Chrome
PC users interested in finding new ways to view movies should avoid unauthorized versions of Popcorn Time software, along with all the usual hazards (such as torrent networks or non-specialized freeware sites). With the majority of ClipCnv incidents also involving additional adware, PCs exposed to this unwanted software unwittingly should be scanned with in-depth anti-adware tools. Normal uninstall attempts through the Windows Control Panel may fail at deleting ClipCnv, which malware experts estimate is due to the adware maintaining a constant process in memory. In severe circumstances, you may require Safe Mode or other security tactics for your anti-adware programs to delete ClipCnv entirely.
ClipCnv is not necessarily an original or particularly threatening adware program. However, the distribution methods chosen by its authors do indicate the importance of avoiding websites that could mislead you into installing a Potentially Unwanted Program. Even if you see a brand name you're inclined to trust, be sure to verify that the company is legitimate. The difference between that company and a third party entity could be the exploitation of your PC for advertisements. Popcorn Time's official domain is popcorntime.io, although multiple forks in the project have appeared since its inception.
