DictAddon is a recently-identified adware program. While DictAddon provides functions related to making the finding word definitions 'seemless' [sic], DictAddon also modifies your browser so that DictAddon may launch advertisements automatically. As is traditional for any adware, DictAddon's benefits are significantly outdone by the security and performance issues of its advertisements, and malware researchers would recommend deleting DictAddon unblinkingly. The thorough use of anti-malware software in DictAddon's deletion also is recommended due to the recurring presence of DictAddon alongside many similar types low-level PC threats, such as other questionable browser add-ons.

The Add-On that's More Than Happy to Dictate Advertisements to You

DictAddon is a browser add-on that claims to function as an easily-accessible online dictionary, but these features hold second place compared to its primary features, which involve displaying browser advertisements. Malware researchers have observed functions from DictAddon that may link with the following browser symptoms, all of which should be noticeable on sight:

  • Advertisements that are injected into a Web page directly. Since the Web page wasn't designed to host DictAddon's advertisements, they may stop you from accessing an important part of that Web page's content.
  • Advertising content that's superimposed on top of a Web page's content, but within the same tab or window.
  • The display of online banners and similar graphical advertisements.
  • Displays for online coupons, price checks and similar shopping 'bargains' with questionable merit.

While malware analysts have verified all of the above, DictAddon may change its capabilities, adding or removing to these features, at any time. DictAddon's EULA discounts the necessity of requesting permission from its users before installing any updates, which is a notably poor practice for PC security.

Removing the Add-On that Has Poor Regard for Your Safety

As of late 2013, DictAddon's advertisements sometimes include unsafe content, such as fraudulent media player updates that may install threats. Malware experts always would suggest reducing your contact with suspicious advertisements to a bare minimum, but these latest DictAddon-exploiting attacks add increased necessity to the importance of responding to DictAddon appropriately. Removing DictAddon is a definitive matter of protecting your computer, and it always should include anti-malware programs that are adept at deleting concealed PC threats that could have distributed themselves through DictAddon's advertisement network.

DictAddon does have a website that's busy marketing DictAddon as a supposedly helpful program. However, malware researchers have seen some cases of DictAddon being installed by less reputable methods than that. Mind what you download, scan potentially corrupted files before opening them and avoid sites that distribute adware. Taken as a whole, these steps can provide comprehensive protection against DictAddon, as well as a wide range of other adware add-ons that could trouble your browser.
