DMUninstaller is a software uninstaller utility typically found with adware programs and other Potentially Unwanted Programs. If DMUninstaller is linked to any unwanted side effects, particularly ones related to your Web-browsing experience, malware researchers recommend the use of good anti-adware tools for deleting DMUninstaller and affiliated software. In other cases, DMUninstaller may be non-threatening, and you only should be suspicious of DMUninstaller's presence when its inclusion is in unusual circumstances, such as being installed automatically or showing difficulties during deletion.

The Wrong Way to Get Rid of the Software that Ails You

Between the categories of clearly harmful software or threats and helpful applications, therein lies PUPs such as DMUninstaller: potentially unwanted software that most often is tied to monetization plans, such as advertising pop-ups, surveys or traffic redirects. DMUninstaller is an uninstaller that is described as a tool for removing the adware and other add-ons that may be bundled with it. DMUninstaller, even though malware researchers have found its services in that respect to be more than slightly questionable. Symptoms of other PUPs installed with DMUninstaller that should be monitored include:

  • Unwanted browser advertisements that may include pop-up windows or injected links to sponsored advertisement content. These advertisements are some of the most common sources of other attacks against a semi-compromised PC, such as phishing tactics and threat-installing download links. However, since adware is not necessarily threatening, some security programs may fail to identify these changes or the associated software.
  • Browser hijacks may redirect you to other websites. Most browser hijackers are content to redirect your online searches to spam sites or lock your homepage to an unwanted site, but a browser redirect may occur at any time. Some browser hijackers may promote their functions as being beneficial to your PC (for example, by 'protecting' your homepage settings).

Removing the PUP that's Meant to Remove PUPs

Since DMUninstaller does, historically, tend to be difficult to delete by hand and may be installed with similarly-stubborn software, malware researchers recommend using programs with anti-adware functions to delete DMUninstaller. A complete deletion of DMUninstaller and related programs should remove most browser side effects, including pop-ups – though you may need to reset your search engine or homepage manually. PUPs like DMUninstaller often modify specific brands of browsers, but avoiding the affected browser may leave your PC in a state of insecurity, and removing any unwanted software always is preferable to ignoring it.

DMUninstaller sometimes is installed automatically, which may be caused by software-bundling utilities. Most security suites with anti-adware tools also should be able to identify the bundles that would install DMUninstaller. Even with that fallback defense, malware researchers prefer to encourage avoiding the adware-heavy sites that are known for distributing adware and other unwanted programs with their downloads.
