Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

MTView is a Potentially Unwanted Program that may associate itself with unwanted installations, undesirable browser modifications and file association changes. Current analyses of MTView have come up with no evidence of its being a malign or illicit product. However, PC users who are unsure of whether or not they should use this software should delete MTView with a good anti-adware program or equivalent PC security tool.
A View of New Web-Browsing Problems
MTView (unrelated to the Ubuntu OS package of the same name) is a Chinese application known primarily for distributing itself through bundles and other, equally non-consensual downloads. Although malware experts have taken notice of cases of MTView installing itself singularly, some MTView installers also may include other software of a similar development origin. A spike in its recorded distribution was noted in the last month of 2015, targeting English-speaking PC users through methods currently unknown.
MTView may configure itself automatically to launch with Windows and run in memory perpetually, with an unconcealed process, MTView.exe, that you can view with your Task Manager application. Some symptoms that malware experts also can correlate with MTView installations may include:
- MTView may make changes to your image file associations, causing different applications to launch when you open files such as BMPs or JPGs.
- MTView may modify the names of your files automatically as you download them (seemingly for compatibility purposes with its intended features).
- A minority of PC users with MTView installed also experienced browser-specific issues, such as new UI elements (including toolbars), hijacked homepage and redirected Web searches. Malware experts are investigating whether all of these modifications base themselves on current builds of MTView or may be caused by other software bundled with it.
All known download resources for MTView utilize non-consensual strategies, with bundlers (installers that bundle multiple applications together into a single file, with or without any additional prompts) being the predominant method.
Heading Back to Viewing the Content You Want
The increasing inter-connectivity of the world also comes with drawbacks, such as PC users installing unexpected software accidentally that they are then unable to remove. Although MTView is not threatening and does not conceal any of its files, PC users may struggle with navigating through its Chinese-language, unorthodox uninstall routine. You can resolve most problems with removing MTView by using automated security solutions for its deletion, such as anti-adware scanners that come equipped with definitions for getting rid of the byproducts of non-consensual bundlers.
Even programs without a threat classification can put your PC at risk of being attacked by real threats, either unintentionally or as a side effect of their feature set. PC users without an interest in watching what they're downloading may find themselves dealing with 'foreign' and unwanted software like MTView in much of their immediate future. However, malware experts also might note that most anti-malware and anti-adware scanners include good detection rates against the bundle-based installation files that are circulating MTView throughout the globe.
