Unknown Files

Do not open unknown programs or files found on suspicious websites or anonymous emails because it may lead to malware. Malware can replicate itself and deposit duplicates of themselves in other files. Malware spreads through infected attachments in spam emails, porn websites, pirated software found on p2p (peer-to-peer) file sharing or warez websites, and corrupt Flash, ActiveX, and media codec downloads, to name a few.

Unknown files are files that our security analyst team have not identified as a threat or safe item. In an effort to detect any new malware, our security analysts are rapidly using advanced malware analysis tools and methods to identify the behavior of unknown file samples and be able to determine whether they're potential threats.

What to Do About Unknown Files?

You can never know where or when the next malware attack will appear and take you on a ride of uncertainty and danger. The first preventive golden rule is to follow a strict download discipline and never download or install unknown files or programs from unknown sources. When you stumble on an unknown program from an unknown source, be it from an email, a pop-up message or a web page, you should research on the Web and educate yourself further on the origin of the unknown program before you put it on your system. Even if you hastily or unknowingly download an unknown program, the easiest way to identify its intentions is to use your anti-spyware software. An anti-spyware program that is not frequently updated is practically useless. A computer can be exposed to a new strand of malware which can pass undetected because of an outdated anti-spyware scanner. There's no 100% surefire solution to malware but following cautionary measures can exponentially lower your risk of getting the latest and nastiest infections in your PC.
