Posted: March 23, 2021

The Microsoft Store is not used by many users, but it is still sometimes needed to fetch a particular application or game that is hosted on it. Being unable to open the Microsoft Store may prevent you from accessing certain content and, needless to say, solving this problem as soon as possible should be one of your main priorities. If you can't open the Microsoft Store on Windows, then follow these instructions to try and fix the issue:

Reset the Microsoft Store application

Many users are not aware that particular Windows features, applications, and games can be reset to try and fix unexpected issues. To do this, you will need to go to Start Menu -> applications -> applications & Features. Find 'Microsoft Store' click it, and go to 'Advanced Options.' Scroll down until you find the 'Reset' button. Press it, and follow the instructions to complete the task.

Download Windows Updates

Typically, the Microsoft Store application can be updated manually, but to do it you would need to open the application. If this is impossible, then you will need to command your Windows to download all updates. Go to Start Menu -> Settings -> Update & Security. If there are any pending updates, you will need to press 'Restart Now' to apply the updates.

Make Sure that the Date & Time are Synced

Sometimes, having the wrong date & time configuration may cause applications like Microsoft Store to misbehave. To troubleshoot this issue, you will need to go to Start Menu -> Settings -> Time & Language. Make sure that the options 'Set time automatically' and 'Set time zone automatically' are on. Click on 'Add clocks for different time zones' -> Select the 'Internet Time' tab' -> Go to 'Change Settings.' Select 'Synchronize with an Internet time server' and set it totime.windows.com.

Run the SFC Repair

Press Windows + R to open the run prompt. Then type 'cmd' and press OK to launch the Command Prompt. Typesfc /scannowto initialize the repair sequence.

Reset the Microsoft Store Cache

Windows has an embedded utility to reset the Microsoft Store Cache. To access it, open the Start Menu and search forwsreset.exe. Launch it and follow the instructions to complete the task. You will need to reopen Microsoft Store after the task is finished.
