Kylie Jenner, Sarah Hyland, and Victoria Justice Images Hacked and Leaked

Occasionally, hackers and cyber criminals take a break from trojans, ransomware threats and creating malware for profit in general, and go back to mischief – using their skills for what is, in their eyes, a bit of fun and excitement. Of course, for the ones who become a victim of their "fun," this isn't just a prank that could be taken lightheartedly. Most of you would know what the infamous "Fappening" entailed, but for those of you, who have missed out on this, here's a little summary. In 2014 a total of around 500 photos of celebrities, which were intended to be private, as a large number were nudes, were leaked on the notorious imageboard 4chan.

To cut to the chase – In the space of just a few days, three new cases appeared. It has been reported that three celebrities' personal data might have been infiltrated.

Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland became famous because of her role in the popular TV series Modern Family, where she plays Haley Dunphy. In mid-July this year, it was announced that there had been nude photos and a video of her leaked online. The most likely cause of this would be a hack. The actress refuses to comment on the incident but has stated that she's willing to sue any newspaper or magazine, paper-print or online, which would dare to publish them. There are, however, debates whether this is actually her, or a Sarah Hyland lookalike. The website that hosts the compromising content has been sued before, and it's unclear whether they intend to remove Sarah Hyland's (or her lookalike) photos and video.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner is a 19-year-old American celebrity from the famous Kardashian family. On the 23rd of July, her Snapchat account was hacked, and the infiltrators threatened to leak nudes of her. It's not clear how exactly the attack was carried out – whether it was a phishing scam or a brute force attack. Later, though, the hacker responsible for the attack stated that he is, in fact, not in possession of any nude photos of Kylie because he couldn't find any. He tweeted out "Jk she aint got nudes lol but rt my pinned tweet i want clout lol. [sic] ". Maybe there is one celebrity out there that is aware of the dangers of storing nudes on one's mobile device. The twitter account of the hacker behind this gross infiltration of privacy has been banned.

Victoria Justice

On the same day that the incident with Kylie Jenner took place, another celebrity was targeted. This time it was the 24-year-old American singer and actress Victoria Justice. Apparently, around 9:30 PM Eastern time strange tweets started appearing from her twitter account. Some of them contained profanities and even the n-word. The hacker's goal seemed to be promoting a few twitter accounts by claiming that he will post Victoria Justice's nudes there. He also stated that apart from nude photographs, he also had a hold of a video of her performing fellatio. Victoria Justice is no stranger to such attacks, as she was a victim of the original Fappening from 2014. The twitter accounts linked to the incident were banned.

The Dangers of Storing Sensitive Data

It's important to note that not only celebrities are vulnerable to such nasty attacks. Anyone's data could be stolen and leaked, or used for blackmail. It's crucial to note, that compromising files such as nudes or videos of sexual nature shouldn't be stored on devices connected to the internet. The safest way of going about this is to use an external hard drive or an offline storage device.
