’888-991-5298′ Tech Support Scam
If your system displays a pop-up that prompt you to contact a support hotline by calling 888-991-5298, it is highly likely that your system is infected with adware. Typically, adware infection is the cause of excessive amounts of advertisements and pop-ups, and sometimes fake alert messages that are disguised as genuine alerts from Windows. Adware infection may occur when downloading free applications as they often come bundled with Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) or adware. Computer security experts have discovered that calling 888-991-5298 would not solve your problems with this infection. In addition, users are advised not to contact the 'live technicians' at 888-991-5298 as they would require you to provide remote access. Such scams are often utilized by adware creators in order to generate revenue and users should not be fooled by how appealing a pop-up might seem.
