WM/CAP Description
WM/CAP is a Word macro virus that is designed to infect Word and modify up to five already existing menus and redirecting them to the virus code. WM/CAP may cause some problems, as the names of the modified entries are different in different Word installations and different language versions of Word. Once it is executed, WM/CAP infects documents and deletes all existing macros from them. WM/CAP gets on a system by being attached to template files in Word versions 6 and 7 or any document in Word version 8. Step 1 : Use Windows File Search Tool to Find WM/CAP Path
- Go to Start > Search > All Files or Folders.
- In the "All or part of the the file name" section, type in "WM/CAP " file name(s).
- To get better results, select "Look in: Local Hard Drives" or "Look in: My Computer" and then click "Search" button.
- When Windows finishes your search, hover over the "In Folder" of "WM/CAP ", highlight the file and copy/paste the path into the address bar. To remove WM/CAP , you must first stop any WM/CAP processes that are running in your computer’s memory. To stop all WM/CAP processes, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Task Manager. Click on the "Processes" tab, search for WM/CAP , then right-click it and select "End Process" key.
To delete WM/CAP registry keys, open the Windows Registry Editor by clicking on the Windows "Start" button and selecting "Run." Type "regedit" into the box and click "OK." Once the Registry Editor is open, search for the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WM/CAP ." Right-click this registry key and select "Delete."
Finally, to completely get rid of WM/CAP , you must manually remove other WM/CAP files. These WM/CAP files can be in the form of EXE, DLL, LSP, TOOLBAR, BROWSER HIJACK, and/or BROWSER PLUGIN. For example, WM/CAP might create a file like
%PROGRAM_FILES%\WM/CAP \WM/CAP .exe. Locate and remove these files.
