Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Adware.Packed.Ranver is an identifying label for various potentially malicious browser add-ons and toolbars, with a particular emphasis on adware programs that display advertisements in your browser without your permission. Because Adware.Packed.Ranver may apply to several types of similar but distinct PC threats, its symptoms are somewhat malleable, and SpywareRemove.com malware researchers must recommend general anti-malware tactics for finding and removing Adware.Packed.Ranver as it's required. Currently, Adware.Packed.Ranver only is detected by a very limited number of anti-malware programs, and using updated threat databases is especially important for maximizing your chances of detecting Adware.Packed.Ranver before Adware.Packed.Ranver may be installed on your computer – or removing Adware.Packed.Ranver after the fact.
Unintentionally Unzipping a Bunch of Advertisements in Your Browser
Adware.Packed.Ranver is used to identify several types of similar adware that are still in a data-compressed or 'packed' format. One of the most common means of achieving this is through ZIP and RAR file archives, which are a favored method for malware authors to obscure malicious spam e-mail attachments. However, the evidence for Adware.Packed.Ranver using an e-mail-based infection vector is circumstantial, at best, and Adware.Packed.Ranver, like most adware, also has a reasonable chance of being distributed through other methods that market Adware.Packed.Ranver fraudulently as a beneficial program.
While only a very limited subset of the overall anti-malware industry's software has identified Adware.Packed.Ranver so far, Adware.Packed.Ranver has collected a number of recurring aliases that stand as a testament to its variable formats. SpywareRemove.com malware experts have noted the most common of these, including Win32/Packed.ScrambleWrapper.C, WS.Reputation.1 (a Symantec rating for files with poor Web reputations), Adware.Plugin.73, Adware/1ClickDownload.T and variants of the GamePlayLabs adware. Symptoms related to these PC threats and other variants of Adware.Packed.Ranver may consist of some or all of the following:
- Displaying pop-up advertisement windows.
- Inserting advertisements – either marked or unmarked – into unrelated Web pages.
- Inserting hyperlinks to third parties in unrelated text keywords.
Keeping the Pandora's Box of Advertisements Shut Tight
Adware.Packed.Ranver and similar archive-compressed PC threats often are difficult for many basic anti-malware scanners to identify, and Adware.Packed.Ranver has been confirmed to be identifiable only by a smaller number of anti-malware products to date. To keep an Adware.Packed.Ranver infection off your computer as best as is possible, you should be particularly cautious about interacting with all common infection vectors. SpywareRemove.com malware researchers also suggest that you pay attention to any potentially mislabeled files that may pretend to be a JPG or other 'safe' file type when, in reality, they're zipped versions of Adware.Packed.Ranver and other unreliable applications.
However, once it's unzipped and installed, detecting Adware.Packed.Ranver should be made sufficiently obvious by its advertisements. At that point, most anti-malware products should be able to remove Adware.Packed.Ranver at that point, which is recommended to keep your browser from incidentally exposing you to any potentially toxic advertising content.
