'ChaosCC Hacker Group' Email Scam

Posted: October 7, 2019

The con artists are getting desperate with the fear-mongering strategies they use to get their targets to follow specific instructions. The latest example of a low-quality, but effective online tactic is the 'ChaosCC Hacker Group' Email Scam – anonymous crooks pretend to be part of the 'ChaosCC Hacker Group,' a non-existent crime group. The emails containing the fraudulent messages are sent to random users, and their contents reveal a basic sextortion scheme.

The intro paragraph of the message states that the email service provider's servers have been hacked, and the attackers have gained access to all of the victim's contacts and social media profiles. Furthermore, they state that they used this opportunity to plant spyware on the victim's computer and used it to gather additional information. After this, the email states that the attackers have been paying close attention to their target's 'intimate online adventures,' and they have used the Web camera to record them whenever they browsed any adult websites.

Another Fake Sextortion Tactic Tries to Scare People into Paying $700

The fraudsters threaten to send the recorded video footage to all contacts of the victim unless they agree to pay a $700 fee via Bitcoin. The attackers say that the victim has 60 hours to comply with that request, otherwise, the videos will be sent out to all contacts.

These sextortion tactics almost always follow the same script, and the 'ChaosCC Hacker Group' Email Scam is no exception – we assure you that messages of this type should not be trusted, and the anonymous 'hackers' do not have any recordings of you. You should never agree to send them money, and not even bother replying to these emails. If you receive the 'ChaosCC Hacker Group' Email Scam in your inbox, you should ignore and report it to the sender so that email service providers will be able to block these hoaxes sooner.
