Epsilon Miner

Cybercriminals often try to sell their products to like-minded users on hacking forums. One of the latest advertisements on public hacking forums is the Epsilon Miner, which is meant to work as a stealthy browser extension that harvests the computer's hardware resources to mine for cryptocurrency. This operation will only work when the browser is active, so users will not notice anything out of the ordinary while they are not using their Web browser.

The Epsilon Miner code is sold for just $50, and buyers can rework it to look like a legitimate browser extension. It is up to customers to determine how they will promote it – shady software of this sort may often be spread via pirated downloads, misleading social media posts, email spam, etc.

Having a copy of the Epsilon Miner running alongside your Web browser may be quite the issue because the mining tool will use plenty of CPU resources, therefore hindering your computer's overall performance. If your Web browser appears to be using excessive hardware resources, you should run an anti-malware scanner to ensure that a threat like the Epsilon Miner is not running in the background.
