Esexz Ransomware

Posted: January 20, 2021

The Esexz Ransomware is a threat that you do not want to have to deal with. This newly spotted malware is still undergoing analysis, and, unfortunately, it is not yet clear whether its file-locking mechanism can be deciphered via free utilities. For now, the Esexz Ransomware should be considered to be a non-decryptable threat – this means that its victims will not have access to free decryption tools.

The primary purpose of this Trojan is to prevent its victims from using their files. It does this by encoding the contents of dozens of files, many of which are documents, media, archives, databases, backups, and other important files. Whenever the Esexz Ransomware locks a file successfully, it marks its name with the '.esexz' extension. Just like other file-lockers, it ends its attack when it is out of files to encrypt – the last action it executes is to drop the ransom message 'readme.txt' on the desktop.

The document tells victims to message costestu@cock.li, setestco@protonmail.com, or zetterlow@tutanota.com for assistance. It also lets them know that they will need to pay some Bitcoin to purchase the decryption tool – we assure you that you do not want to accept this offer because the ransomware's creators may steal your money. If this ransomware has locked your files, we suggest that you run an up-to-date anti-virus scanner to remove the threat. After this, try to restore the files from a backup or research alternative data recovery options and tools.
