Normally, when you notice the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) theme, it means that your Windows has crashed. However, if you observe it as the background of a website, you most likely came across a fraud attempt. This is exactly the case with informationprotection.us. It is an intentionally misleading page, whose owners try to steal money from the visitors. Usually, the ways for you to land on such malicious pages are two: either after clicking on some corrupt advertisement or link or automatically. Informationprotection.us is no exception to this rule, but there is a catch. If you type the URL manually or follow a link to it, all you will see is a happy elderly couple on the main page. However, if your browser loads a subdomain of informationprotection.us automatically, you will notice the mentioned BSoD screen that claims you are infected. This action indicates the presence of a browser hijacker, which will start redirecting you to the deceitful site on a regular basis. As long as this web extension is present, you will notice informationprotection.us in each of your web sessions. The people behind the browser hijacker use this approach to their advantage. They state that if you are seeing the BSoD error screen for the first time, you should restart your PC to see if it appears again. They know it will. After the users face the same threatening information twice, they may assume their PCs are indeed infected with malware. If you call the displayed phone number, the people on the other side of the phone will ask you to pay them a lot of money to clean your machine – a clever way to steal your cash. Instead of being tricked by these scammers, you should perform an in-depth PC scan to remove the harmful add-on from your web clients.
