'Invite Friends' Extension

Posted: March 7, 2017

The 'Invite Friends' extension is a Web browser extension that is featured on the Chrome Web Store and has over 2,000 active users, yet it does not appear to offer any valuable utilities. When the extension is installed, it adds a new button to the Google Chrome menu, but when users opt to click it, it just takes them to the Chrome Web Store page of the 'Invite Friends' extension. Although the 'Invite Friends' extension appears to do nothing, it is important to note that when it is installed, it asks for the user's permission to read and modify data on the websites they visit. This is usually a permission requested by adware applications, but there is no sign of unwanted advertisements when running the 'Invite Friends' extension.

The dubious thing about this software is the way it may be distributed. Some users might come across an offer to install it while browsing Web pages that host low-quality advertising campaigns. The proposal to install the 'Invite Friends' extension may be difficult to close, and users might end up forced to agree to install the extension, or they might need to reset their Web browser completely to restore it to its regular operational state.

The 'Invite Friends' extension is identified as a Potentially Unwanted Program, and removing it from your computer would be for the best probably since this extension's purpose is yet unknown. However, judging by the deceptive promotion methods it may use, it is likely that once active, the 'Invite Friends' extension will not provide you with any beneficial features.
