The fraudsters appear to be impersonating the 'Jeansom James Ancheta,' notable for being the first person convicted of operating a botnet in the United States. The infamous cybercrook served five years in prison for the deed but is currently free. Thankfully, you can rest assured that the person behind the 'Jeanson J. Ancheta' email scam is using a fake identity, as high-profile hackers would not provide their names in an email.

Low-Level Crooks Impersonate Famous Cybercriminal to Scare Their Targets

The message of the con artists state that they have injected a corrupted code onto your computer, and their initial plan was to encrypt your files and offer you to purchase a decryptor. However, they later decided to switch up their tactic by recording you while you were browsing 'dirty websites,' and also claim to have gathered your contact list. They threaten to send the 'naughty screen videos' to friends and family unless you send $650 worth of Bitcoin to their wallet. We assure you that you should not do this, as the whole message is a bluff meant to trick you into giving money to anonymous cybercrooks.

There are countless tactic of this sort, and there is almost never a true word in them. The con artists have not planted malware on your computer, and they do not have any footage of you, nor do they have your contact list. We advise you to report such messages, delete them, and carry on with your day.
