LuckyBoy Malware

Posted: January 22, 2021

The LuckyBoy Malware is involved in a large-scale attack campaign that targets Internet-connected devices of all sorts. So far, it has been identified on iOS, Android, and, surprisingly, Xbox users. The campaign is most active in the European region, but samples of the malware also have managed to reach systems in Canada and the United States. Thankfully, the LuckyBoy Malware is not involved in very threatening activity, but its presence on your system may be a major nuisance. The malware uses a common technique to keep an eye on the user's behavior – pixel tracking. The malware can trigger redirects to 3rd-party websites and content whenever the user performs specific actions. Needless to say, the authors of the LuckyBoy Malware will not lead their victims to legitimate content – Instead, they may take them to tactics, phishing sites and other dubious content.

In addition to this task, the LuckyBoy Malware also gathers all sorts of information about the compromised device – the resolution, CPU hardware, battery level, touch screen availability, graphics card details and more.

The malvertising campaign surrounding this malware has been described as 'sophisticated' by malware researchers, and it would not be a surprise if this operation expands even further. Thankfully, users can keep their devices protected from the LuckyBoy Malware by using up-to-date security software, strong login credentials, and applying the latest software and driver updates.
