A parental control software may seem like an attractive offer for parents who want to control what their children are doing online without having to check every page they visit manually. This applies to software that is free especially, yet claims to provide users with the ability to filter their Internet traffic so that they'll be prevented from visiting phishing pages or websites known for hosting adult or disturbing content automatically. An example of such a piece of software is 'Parental Control' which, thanks to its generic name, may often be confused with other applications. However, the Parental Control software has one notable property that other software of this sort usually does not include – the ability to inject 'Parental Control ads' in every page that the user visits online. According to the official page of the extension, these ads are required to keep the extension free, and users can't get rid of them in any way. This means that Parental Control ads will become an inevitable part of your Web browsing habits for as long as you have this application installed on your computer.

The website of Parental Control is set-up rather poorly, and there isn't much to see there. The extension can be downloaded from there directly, and the small message found on the site claims that this extension improves online safety and avoids adult content, propaganda and phishing pages automatically. In addition to this, the authors state that the Parental Control software is able to work in over 120 countries, which probably means that its filter covers some country-specific pages linked to adult content.

Seeing some ads in the websites you browse may not sound like a major issue, but this could only be said by users who have not had a bad experience with adware. The Parental Control software is identified as adware due to the number of advertisements it will bring to the user's Web browser as soon as it is installed. The Parental Control Ads can have severe consequences for the user's Web browsing experience since they may often disregard the layout of the page the user is viewing currently, and the banners may appear on top of important navigation elements or content sections. Overall, Parental Control Ads may end up accidentally limiting the user's ability to access certain parts of the website they are viewing. The removal of the Parental Control ads is the recommended course of action, and users can do this either by uninstalling 'Parental Control' manually or removing it with the help of anti-malware software.
