PDFSearchApps

Posted: December 31, 2020

PDFSearchApps is a browser extension, which poses a useful utility meant to enhance your Web browser's functionality by introducing PDF conversion, creation and management tools. However, users who end up installing PDFSearchApps will be surprised by the changes they see – the add-on will replace their new tab page with Portal.pdfsearchapps.com, while the default search engine is set to Feed.pdfsearchapps.com. These pages pose as simple search engines and using them is not unsafe. However, you should know that PDFSearchApps websites may not always work reliably, and there is a chance that they may display advertisements with intrusive content.

PDFSearchApps is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP,) and you should consider removing it if you notice it on your computer. It can be uninstalled manually, but it is recommended to remove it with the use of an up-to-date computer security scanner.

To avoid installing PUPs like this one, you should be careful with the software you download from the Internet. In the case of browser add-ons, always check the permissions they need – if they want to replace your default new tab page or search engine, then you should reconsider their installation.
