Rackspace Email Scam
The Rackspace Email Scam is a phishing tactic, which is executed with the help of cleverly crafted email messages telling the targeted users that they have a pending invoice for the Rackspace cloud service, and must review it by logging into their accounts immediately. However, the login link featured in the email does not lead to the Rackspace’s official page and, instead, it refers users to an identical copy of the Rackspace’s website that is meant to store the entered login credentials in plain text. Naturally, since the attackers are in control of the fake website, they can easily use the collected information to cause countless problems for the users who utilize the Rackspace’s services.
Remember that you should never trust email messages that ask you to enter login credentials, personal information or payment details. You should always check the URL of the Web page they want you to visit and, if possible, avoid opening direct links to PayPal, online banking or similar services. Instead, you should load these pages manually, therefore ensuring that you will not be redirected to a fraudulent page that is meant to harvest your login credentials.
