SearchQuest

Posted: September 15, 2016

SearchQuest is a Web browser extension that aims to improve the user's ability to search the Web by providing them with access to various search tools. For example, users who have SearchQuest installed can highlight a word or phrase, and the extension will display Bing and Wikipedia results for the highlighted phrase/word automatically. However, the installation of SearchQuest reveals the extension's 'Terms of Service' which state that the utility is ad-supported, and its users may see 3rd-party marketing content while browsing the Web.

The advertisements that SearchQuest uses may be labeled as 'SearchQuest Ads' or 'Ads by SearchQuest.' If you notice advertisements labeled like this in your Web browser, then you might want to look at the list of installed browser extensions and see if SearchQuest is there. Although SearchQuest is not unsafe, its presence is undesirable because of the ads it may bombard you with while you try to browse the Web. There are no reports of SearchQuest ads being associated with threat distribution channels or other suspicious activities, but they might be used to promote Potentially Unwanted Programs or services of questionable reputation. It is best to avoid the installation of SearchQuest whenever possible, as well as to take the necessary measures to remove this adware if you find it on your computer.
