'Transcrop Bank' Email Virus

Posted: November 13, 2020

Phishing emails are among the favorite strategies that both cybercriminals and online con artists get their potential victims engaged with unsafe content. A newly identified spam campaign is being used to spread the Agent Tesla RAT, and it is being referred to as the 'Transcrop Bank' email virus. As the name suggests, the campaign is targeted towards the Transcrop Bank clients, but it is possible that the criminals might send the email to clients of other banks too accidentally.

The corrupted email message contains multiple file attachments, and it informs the recipient that they have received a large payment of over $100,000. However, they are asked to confirm the payment by downloading and reviewing the attached files because of the large sum. Users who fall for this may end up dealing with a macro-laced Microsoft Office document designed to deploy and initialize the Agent Tesla RAT.

If you see an email from 'Transcrop Bank' in your inbox and refer to a transaction that you did not expect, we advise you not to review it. A better way to stay safe from campaigns like this is to keep your computer secured by a regularly updated anti-malware solution. This way, even if you end up engaging with a potentially corrupted file, your antivirus tool will stop it before it can cause any harm.
