Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Trojan.Packed.kvt is a compressed Trojan that may be used in backdoor attacks that subvert your control over your PC. While other means of installation also are likely, Trojan.Packed.kvt's latest campaign exploited fraudulent e-mail messages that may be targeting specific NGOs (non-profit institutions). Trojan.Packed.kvt infections have a high rate of correlation with major security and performance issues, and malware experts advise that you turn to your anti-malware solutions whenever suspecting its presence on any PC.
Trojan.Packed.kvt: the Telltale Trojan in a Sluggish Computer
Trojan.Packed.kvt is a Windows Trojan whose full capabilities are still being examined, but typically may include the exploitation of backdoor connections, modified browser settings and the download of other threats. Normal symptoms of Trojan.Packed.kvt infections are limited to excessively low system resources, which may substantially worsen overall performance and may damage your PC's hardware. This resource usage is a common characteristic of Trojans conducting repetitive activities not necessarily targeted at the PC's user, such as advertising click-fraud or spamming e-mail messages.
In addition to poor performance, you also may notice high visibility symptoms that may include:
- Trojan.Packed.kvt may block all file downloads through your browser.
- Trojan.Packed.kvt may modify your default homepage or search engine settings.
In extreme cases, Windows may fail to boot. This last symptom may be seen after an inadequate attempt at deleting Trojan.Packed.kvt, which may be indicative of this attack being a self-defensive mechanism by Trojan.Packed.kvt or related threats. Malware experts also saw additional Trojans installed with Trojan.Packed.kvt in the latest incidents, including Trojan horse Crypt3.BBYT, Trojan.Agent.ED and Trojan.Ransom.CD.
Lastly, even when Trojan.Packed.kvt is unaccompanied by other threats, Trojan.Packed.kvt may avoid being detected by less sophisticated anti-malware products, due to its data compression that conceals its body of code from some forms of casual analysis.
Getting Trojan.Packed.kvt to Pack Its Bags and Leave
E-mail is the most widely confirmed infection vector for Trojan.Packed.kvt, which may be assumed to use common e-mail tactics such as mislabeled file attachments and links to distribute itself. Past Trojan attacks in the same format often tailored their messages to those of a specific company, government department or NGO's interests. Since Trojan.Packed.kvt also may show some traits common to spambots, you should consider the potential for e-mail addresses on an infected computer being targeted by additional Trojan.Packed.kvt messages.
Scanning file attachments and Web links you have reason to be suspicious of should let your anti-malware tools identify any Trojan.Packed.kvt-installing attacks preemptively. Naturally, the same anti-malware solutions also should be leveraged against Trojan.Packed.kvt infections, which normally may include additional threats.
Unusually, some payloads for threats related to Trojan.Packed.kvt attacks include ransomware-related functions. These attacks may encrypt files on your PC or display fraudulent messages requesting money to unlock your system. However, ransomware campaigns most often aren't targeted at specific companies, governments or NGOs, which indicates that Trojan.Packed.kvt also may be in distribution outside of any targeted campaigns.
