'Your IP has Won (1) Google Gift' Scam

Posted: March 26, 2020

The 'Your IP has Won (1) Google Gift' scam is a fraudulent page that you may encounter while browsing low-quality sites used to propagate pirated software and media, adult videos or other shady digital content. The goal of this tactic is to convince you that you have won a gift from Google. The scheme appears to be very elaborate, as it contains several steps and extra details that are meant to make it more convincing:

  • The fraudsters fetch your IP address and use it to determine your city and Internet Service Provider (ISP) that will be displayed on the page.
  • You can only claim your prize by completing a basic survey that starts by asking simple questions such as 'Who is a founder of Google?'
  • On the bottommost of the page, you will find a comment section with reviews from past winners who show off great prizes – these statements are fake.

The con artists try to urge you to claim your prize by telling you that they have selected nine winners, but there are only five prizes. The end goal of tactics of this sort is to get the victim to provide information such as their name, address, phone number or email address. In other scenarios, the tactic may try to collect your payment information by asking you to pay a 'delivery fee' that is required to have your prize dispatched.

The 'Your IP has Won (1) Google Gift' scam has been around for many years, and it keeps being used by con artists worldwide. We assure you that there is no prize, and you should ignore the contents of such pop-ups. One of the websites associated with this scam is 'yourprizeszx15.live,' but the fraudsters are likely to use a long list of sites to host these fraudulent pop-ups.
