Scanner Not Working
Experiencing issues with computer peripherals is always a nuisance, but the problem might be even more major when the issue concerns your scanner – especially if you are trying to scan important documents or pictures. Thankfully, the scanner not working issue may be easy-to-fix thanks to the troubleshooting tips below:
Check and Repair Windows
Corrupted system files might be the reason why your scanner is failing to work or connect. The easiest way to check for such issues and fix them automatically is to do the following:
- Press Windows Button + R to open the run box.
- Type 'cmd' and press OK.
- Type the command 'sfc /scannow' and press Enter to execute the command.
Make Sure that Windows Services are Running
Scanners and other peripherals are dependent on specific Windows services to operate reliably. Do the following:
- Press Windows Button + R to open the run box.
- Type 'services.msc' and press OK.
- Check if the following services have 'Running' as their status:
- Remote Procedure Call RPC
- DCOM Server Process Launcher
- RPC Endpoint Mapper
- Shell Hardware Detection
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
If any of the services is not running, right-click it and press 'Start.'
Update Scanner Drivers
There are several ways to approach this. The best thing to do is to go to your scanner manufacturer's official website and download the appropriate driver for your device. Run it and follow the installation instructions.
Alternatively, you can open the 'Device Manager' through the 'Start Menu.' Expand the 'Imaging Devices' tab and then right-click your device to select the 'Update Driver' option.
