usa today twitter account hackedThe group of computer hackers calling themselves the Script Kiddiez has struck again. This group of hacktivists, known as the Script Kiddiez, is becoming increasingly known for its penchant of hacking into high-profile Twitter accounts, has struck again. Exactly who was this group's latest target, you ask?

Following the Script Kiddiez recent illegal foray into NBC News' Twitter account, the group managed to successfully hack into USA Today's Twitter profile. This particular episode involving the Twitter-hacking group is being reported as the most high profile of the Script Kiddiez successful hacks.

To date, the Script Kiddiez have claimed to be behind the recent hacking breaches into Twitter accounts belonging to NBC News and Fox News, as well as Pfizer's Facebook page.

Unlike the Script Kiddiez previous, threatening assault against NBC News' account – where they posted bogus news tweets containing false reports of a terrorist attack in New York – the group's hack into USA Today's twitter account comprised of series of non-threatening messages, such as:

"Fox News, Wal-mart, Unilevel, Pfizer, NBC, and now USA Today. Who's next? Vote now! [LINK]" and "Please like The Script Kiddiez on Facebook! You could choose our next target!"

Comparatively, it seems that USA Today was one of the Script Kiddiez luckier targets. As previously mentioned, when the group hacked into NBC News' Twitter account, they posted false news alerts that claimed there has been a terrorist attack in New York City that involved planes. Likewise, when the Script Kiddiez breached Fox News' Twitter account, the group tweeted bogus claims about the death of U.S. President, Barack Obama.

As to the question of how this group managed to hack into and compromise the nationwide news outlet, USA Today's Twitter account, no one really seems to be aware of any one clear answer. It was reported, with some speculation, however, that the Script Kiddiez's venture into NBC News' Twitter account was most likely aided by a malicious spyware-based Trojan horse.

Thankfully, before any serious harm or damage was caused and with the assistance of Twitter, itself, the national news giant, USA Today, was able to regain complete control of its Twitter account. Following the newpaper's regain of control, USA Today issued an explanation and an apology on their Twitter page, in the form of a two consecutive tweets.

The first of the two consecutive tweets issued by the news giant, read:

"@usatoday was hacked and as a result false tweets were sent. We worked with Twitter to correct it. The account is now back in our control," and the second: "We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused to our readers and thank you for reading @usatoday."

Following the Script Kiddiez most recent illegal assault against USA Today's Twitter, there has been some suggestions made by the media that this group of hackers – specializing in Twitter-hacking – is treating their actions as though there are merely childish pranks. The problem with this thought process, however, is that legal authorities involved are most likely not laughing out of amusement. Rather, the larger the number of criminal hacking episodes this group takes part in, as well as the priority level of the particular accounts that the Script Kiddiez choose the hack, will continue to add steam and motivation to the computer crime police force’s drive to catch these cyber criminals.
