Website Taken Down After RedHack Breaches Union of Municipalities of Turkey Leaking User Logins

The hacktavist group known as RedHack is responsible for targeting the Turkish government in a recent breach of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey website tbb.gov.tr. Hackers from RedHack have leaked the usernames of the Turkish government site's members along with the passwords all published online.

The Union of Municipalities of Turkey recently took their site down after the breach to possibly prevent any other unauthorized access. The Turkish government is one of the hacktivist group's antagonists in their dedication to Ali Ismail Korkmaz, one of the protestors killed by police during the Occupy Gezi protests sparked back in the end of May of 2013.

Researchers looking into the Turkish government website breach have also taken note to the attack being claimed as a dedication to Utku Kali also, who is a Turkish soldier once accused of leaking secret documents on the Reyhanli bombing during the beginning of May 2013.

Although the puzzle pieces seem to all fall in line as to the reasons for RedHack targeting the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, RedHack continues to claim that authorities cannot prove that Utku Kali leaked the secret documents.

Much of the RedHack actions are reminiscent of a time where the aggressive Lulzsec Hackers infiltrated many large websites including those belonging to the U.S. government, all because they were strong allies of the controversial WikiLeaks.

It is almost a weekly occurrence when a website of some sort becomes the brunt of a serious breach and stolen data, sometimes including logins and passwords, are stolen and published on the internet. RedHack is among the ever-so-growing list of hacktavist groups who make it an effort to attack entities that they do not agree with or who may oppose their allies in one way or another.
