Advanced Touchpad Features not Working

Posted: March 16, 2021

Modern laptop touchpads include many new and helpful features and gestures – they are no longer the point-and-click devices they used to be. Different laptop models support a wide variety of additional features and gestures, which allow you to perform all kinds of tasks with just a few movements of your finger. If your advanced touchpad features are not working, then you can try these troubleshooting tips:

Manage Windows Mouse Settings

Touchpad settings are found under Windows' 'Mouse Settings' menu. You can access it by opening the Start Menu -> Mouse. Click on 'Additional mouse options' and a new window will pop up. It should contain a tab called 'Device Settings' – this is where you should look for touchpad options. Once you are in the 'Device Settings' tab, you will see a 'Settings' button underneath your touchpad device. Click it to access the advanced features where you can configure one-finger or multi-finger gestures, as well as advanced settings. Make sure that all options you want to use are turned on. Alternatively, you can click 'Restore All Defaults' to get your touchpad to factory settings.

Update Touchpad Drivers

Newer touchpad drivers may improve the functionality of the device, as well as to introduce new features. We suggest navigating to your laptop manufacturer's site and downloading the most recent driver pack. Keep in mind that new touchpad driver versions may be released fairly often, so it is best to keep them up-to-date automatically. You can do this with useful driver maintenance software.
