The updates concern all Blackberry devices running Android operating system and will fix a total of 43 security issues. Users of these devices are therefore advised to download and install the latest version of the software as soon as possible in order to have the best protection for their BlackBerry smartphones.

The advisory that BlackBerry published is a direct response to Android Security Bulletin for this month, and it addresses the security flaws mentioned in the bulletin that concern BlackBerry Android devices.

Among the vulnerabilities for which the company has provided patches are issues related to QCE radio, audio, Qualcomm networking, USB, IPA, MobiCore, and many others. There are fixes for video driver problems and for other issues that concern the Broadcom Wi-Fi Driver, Media DrmServer components, Mediaserver, and the Linux kernel.

The company urges everyone who owns an Android-powered BlackBerry phone to update it immediately by following the instructions that are provided by the company. For now, the latest version of the software and the patches for the vulnerabilities are available only for BlackBerry devices that have been purchased online through the Internet store Shop.BlackBerry.com. However, retailers and mobile carriers could soon release updated software builds as well, so that should cover all of the remaining BlackBerry devices that have not been bought online.

In order to install the updated software, the user needs to go to the Settings → About Phone menu. There, the "August 5, 2017 or later" Android security patch should be available for installation. After the users have successfully installed the update, they should reboot the device for the changes to take effect.
