CyberZeist Hacker Breaches FBI's CMS and Leak Credentials Online

fbi site cms attacked cyberzeist hackerWhile the political storm has been brewing over the past few months during the recent U.S. presidential election, scrutiny abounds when it comes to the U.S. intelligence avenues. Despite the controversy, the FBI has come under attack not only from political sources but from the CyberZeist hacker.

In what appears to be a data breach within the FBI's content management system, the CyberZeist hacker was able to gain access to over 150 FBI CMS logins, which includes encrypted passwords and their respectful email addresses.

CyberZeist has long been a rather outspoken hacker who claims to be a political and offensive hacktivist, according to his Twitter page. Setting his eyes on the FBI.gov website, CyberZeist set out to discover what he describes as logins through the CMS that the FBI site utilizes. Upon his attack on the site, which experts believe had a zero-day vulnerability within its CMS, CyberZeist gathered a database dump that grouped several email addresses and SHA1 encrypted passwords.

Upon hacking the FBI site before New Year's Day, CyberZeist has been blunt in what he has accomplished revealing many details of his attack. Since the attack, which appears to be the result of a zero-day that he used to compromise the CMS, CyberZeist has tweeted out his findings and is awaiting the response of the FBI. It's almost as if CyberZeist is taunting the FBI or at the minimum boasting about his breach to let others know his capabilities, as shown in the tweet below.

Some of the more revealing aspects of CyberZeist's actions is that he is an outright advocate of the Anonymous movement, which traces back to the notorious Anonymous hacker group and their efforts to lash out at those that they have strong disagreements when it comes to certain actions or standings on political matters. CyberZeist isn't the first "outsider" hacker who has supported the movement and stance of Anonymous. Many others have made their allegiance to Anonymous well known, and it shows in their hacking activities.

Currently, one of the organizations behind the FBI's CMS software, Amnesty International, is acknowledging the vulnerability that led to CyberZeist's breach. While an investigation into the matter is on the way, CyberZeist continues to perpetuate in their broadcast to make others aware of their actions the vulnerability within the CMS used on FBI's website. To answer back, the FBI is working on patching the vulnerability and are assured that their CMS is now secure and free from the zero-day threat.
