Posted: March 11, 2021

Seeing the 'DNS Server Unavailable' error can be a major nuisance, especially since it means that you are probably going to be unable to browse the Internet or even to use Internet-dependent services. Sometimes, the error is caused by a hardware issue or problems with your Internet Service Provider (ISP,) while in other cases it might be an issue on the side of your Web browser. Here are some tips on how to try and resolve the 'DNS Server Unavailable' error:

Temporary Stop the Firewall/Anti-Virus Software

Keeping your system protected against hackers and cyber threats is great, but sometimes such software may impose overzealous measures. If you encounter the 'DNS Server Unavailable' error, you may want to switch your defenses off for a minute to see if it gets resolved. If this fixes the problem, immediately turn on the firewall and anti-virus software back on, and then tamper with their settings.

Restart the Router/Computer

Restarting hardware is strongly recommended when experiencing any sort of issues with your computer or Internet. Try restarting both the router and computer to see if the issue gets resolved.

Switch to Google's DNS Servers

  1. Click on the 'Network Connections' icon in the taskbar, and select 'Open Network & Internet Settings.'
  2. Click on 'Change connection properties.'
  3. Click 'Change adapter settings,' then right-click your network adapter and click 'Properties.'
  4. Select 'TCP IPv4' and select 'Properties.'
  5. Set the primary DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the second one to 8.8.4.4
  6. Apply the changes.

Update Network Adapter Drivers

If all else fails, you can try to run a driver update on your network card. You can either download the latest version manually or run automated driver updating software to take care of the task for you.
