How to Deactivate iMessage on Mac
Apple's iMessage is a great service, which allows Apple users to easily contact each other, regardless if they are using a laptop, computer, tablet, or phone. However, some users tend to get annoyed by the constant iMessage notifications, while others want to get rid of the app completely. If you are looking for a way to deactivate iMessage on your Mac, then follow the instructions below:
Turning off Notifications
If you only wish to turn off notifications for iMessage, then you need to open the Apple menu -> System Preferences. Select the panel 'Notifications' and then select 'Messages' from the list on the left. Finally, select 'None' and then uncheck all boxes.
Deactivating iMessage
If turning off the notifications is not enough, then you can deactivate iMessage by opening the application, and going to Preferences. Select your account on the left, and then uncheck the 'Enable this account' box to disable your iMessage profile. You can always re-enable it by returning to this menu and checking the aforementioned box.
Deactivating iMessage by Removing Your Account
If you do not want to simply deactivate your profile, you can remove it entirely. You can do this by going to the Messages app -> Preferences. Once there, select your account on the left, and then click on 'Sign Out' in the main window. Confirm your action. If you want to use iMessage with this account again, you will need to re-add it manually through the same menu.
