How to Uninstall Silverlight
Silverlight is a now-discontinued Microsoft product that used to be one of the main competitors of Adobe Flash Player. It came pre-installed in older Internet Explorer versions, and users of other Web browsers could download Silverlight to enable their Web browser to play content created via the Silverlight framework. In the past, Silverlight was used by major companies like Netflix. Nowadays, Silverlight is obsolete, as there are much more secure and efficient ways to develop Web-based applications. If you somehow still have Silverlight installed on your computer, then you can take these steps to ensure its removal:
Uninstalling Silverlight on Windows
Windows users need to open the Start Menu and head to the Apps -> Apps and Features section. Once there, find the entry for 'Silverlight' in the run of installed programs, select it, and press 'Uninstall.' We also recommend checking the list of installed add-ons of your favorite Web browser – if you find a Silverlight entry, opt to uninstall it.
Uninstalling Silverlight on macOS
macOS users can find and remove Silverlight files by following several steps:
- Go to Finder -> Macintosh HD -> Library -> Application Support -> Microsoft.
- Remove the folders 'PlayReady' and 'Silverlight.'
- Go to Finder -> Macintosh HD -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins directory, and then delete the file 'Silverlight.plugin.'
- Go to Finder -> Applications and remove 'Microsoft Silverlight.'
