How to Uninstall Tuxera

Posted: March 5, 2021

Tuxera is a popular software suite containing two major programs – Tuxera NTFS (also known as Microsoft NTFS for Mac) and Tuxera exFAT (also known as Microsoft exFAT for Mac). It is meant to provide macOS users with the ability to connect to Windows-formatted hard drives and manage their files easily. The usage of such software is required because there are some differences between the hard drive systems and configuration that macOS and Windows require – Tuxera solves these compatibility issues and makes it easy for macOS users to connect to Windows-compatible hard drives.

If you no longer need to use Tuxera NTFS or Tuxera exFAT, then you should follow the instructions below to remove the main application, as well as many leftover files that may have been left behind on your Apple desktop or laptop.

  1. Right-click Tuxera's icon in the Dock menu, and select 'Quit.'
  2. Open Finder -> Applications and find Tuxera's icon. It is usually called 'Tuxera Disk Manager.' Drag it to the Trash Bin.
  3. Empty the Trash Bin to finalize its removal.
  4. Delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Tuxera NTFS.
  5. Delete the files ~/Library/PreferencePanes/Tuxera NTFS.prefPane and ~/Library/Preferences/com.tuxera.NTFS.plist
  6. Delete the folder ~/Library/StartupItems/TuxeraNTFSUnmountHelper

This should be enough to remove all files linked to Tuxera software. If you wish to avoid the part where you manually delete files and folders, you may want to use reputable macOS software that allows you to manage installed apps, and uninstall them entirely with the click of a button.
