Mastering Graphics for DaVinci Resolve: How to Roll Back, Configure, Update, and Reinstall Your Graphics Driver

Roll Back Graphics Update

If you've recently updated your graphics driver and started seeing issues within DaVinci Resolve, it could be due to an incompatible or faulty driver version. In such cases, rolling back the driver to its previous version can help fix the issue.

To do this:

  • Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager."
  • Find "Display adapters "in the list and click on the arrow next to it to expand the list.
  • Right-click your display adapter and choose "Properties "from the drop-down menu.
  • In the new window, head to the "Driver" tab.
  • Select "Rollback driver" to return to the previously installed version of your graphics driver.

Configure GPU in the DaVinci Resolve App

DaVinci Resolve can be very demanding about its graphics settings, so ensuring that your GPU is configured correctly within the app can help address any performance problems you may be experiencing.

  • Open DaVinci Resolve and click on the "DaVinci Resolve" menu at the top of the screen.
  • Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu.
  • In the Preferences window, find the "Auto" box next to the GPU processing mode and uncheck it.
  • Select "CUDA" or "OpenCL" from the drop-down options based on your graphics card and application requirements.
  • Click "Save" to save these settings.

Update Graphics Driver

If you're experiencing problems with DaVinci Resolve and your graphics driver is outdated, updating to the latest version could solve your issue. Here's the step-by-step guide on how to update the Graphics Driver in Windows:

  • Press Win+R, type "devmgmt.msc "and click "OK "to open Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Display adapters."
  • Right-click on your graphics adapter and select "Update driver" from the menu.
  • Choose the "Search automatically for drivers" option.
  • If prompted, click the "Search for updated drivers on Windows update" option and follow the prompts to install any available driver updates.

Uninstall and Reinstall DaVinci Resolve

If none of the steps above fixyour issue, uninstalling and reinstalling DaVinci Resolve may help.

  • Press Win+R.
  • Type "appwiz.cpl" and click "OK. "
  • Locate "DaVinci Resolve" in the program list and click "Uninstall."
  • Follow the instructions to remove DaVinci Resolve.
  • Download the latest version from the official DaVinci Resolve website and install it on your system.
