Microsoft Plans to Release a Next-Gen Operating System Focused on Biometric Security to Heighten Cybersecurity

microsoft next os biometric security more cybersecurityAccording to a press release published earlier this week, Microsoft is working on a new next-generation operating system where partners of the technology company are the developer of human interface solutions Synaptics Incorporated, and the semiconductor manufacturer AMD. Synaptics has announced the new joint project, naming the new platform that Microsoft plans to release "Microsoft's forthcoming biometric security OS including Windows Hello."

As stated in the PR, the goal of the partners in this new enterprise is to provide a new industry benchmark in the fingerprint authentication for both commercial and retail notebook PCs, whereby technology will be based on AMD's Ryzen Mobile platform and Microsoft's next-gen operating system.

According to Synaptics' press release, their Match-in-Sensor technology is unique for the industry in that it isolates the fingerprint image enrollment, the storage of the pattern, and the biometric matching from the host operating system completely, providing thus the highest level of security. This way, the entire process of fingerprint authentication is conducted within a System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture so that a single device performs the input and the output functions.

Obviously, from Synaptics hope that the new cooperation will bring cybersecurity to a higher level, combining their Match-in-Sensor fingerprint recognition technology with the AMD Ryzen Mobile processors and the new biometric security OS by Microsoft. In any case, it looks like Windows Hello biometrics-based authentication system for fingerprint, iris, or facial recognition will stand in the middle of the joint projects. No more details have been provided, however, so experts have not yet figured out what exactly this new OS is supposed to look like.

What is known for sure is that Microsoft is working on several new projects simultaneously, all in the field of cybersecurity and biometrics.

One of these known projects is called Windows Polaris and the rumors say that it is a new mobile operating system focused on security that Microsoft is developing particularly for Surface Phone/Andromeda devices. After the company has just announced it has dropped the launch of a surface phone, however, the experts remain more and more puzzled. Furthermore, Polaris is supposed to be limited to Microsoft Store apps, and it is not clear how biometric authentication can play a role in that new project. For now, more details need to emerge before we know what exactly the company's plans are. It only looks certain that the main focus will be on biometric security.
