Anti-vir-mc.com

Posted: February 18, 2011

Anti-vir-mc.com is a website designed to download misleading and dangerous rogue products onto your computer without your consent. Since the goal of Anti-vir-mc.com's designers is to steal your money and private information in exchange for giving you rogue software that doesn't perform its advertised functions, the website and everything related to Anti-vir-mc.com should be completely distrusted. Even simply browsing Anti-vir-mc.com puts your system at risk for exposure to a drive by download of serious malware threats, so strive to avoid Anti-vir-mc.com whenever possible. If you find your browser redirected towards Anti-vir-mc.com, scan your system for possible infections, since quite a few rogue products are known for hijacking behavior.

Anti-vir-mc.com is a New Twist on the Old Scam

The tactics used by Anti-vir-mc.com are a common online con artist's game - Anti-vir-mc.com spreads and advertises a scanning product called System Tool that purports to be able to serve the same useful purposes as popular anti-malware software.

The catch is that System Tool doesn't actually do anything except display messages about infections your computer doesn't actually have! Since the designers of System Tool don't have to spend money or time programming actual malware-fighting functions into System Tool, they can rake in tremendous profits from unsuspecting users.

Unlike some less aggressive rogue product-promoting sites, Anti-vir-mc.com will also attempt to download a fake alert infection known as 'MSIE FakeAV Notification Alert' onto your computer. Anti-vir-mc.com will do its best to accomplish this stealthily, so that when the alert message pops up, you'll be inclined to take it at Anti-vir-mc.com word. This will then usually install the System Tool rogue product or a similar rogue infection.

Known operating systems that can be affected by this drive by download are:

  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98
  • Windows Me
  • Windows NT
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows XP

This infection is classified as a high risk, so you should be careful about potentially contracting Anti-vir-mc.com, and delete it through the usual means if your system is infected by Anti-vir-mc.com.

Other Potential Attacks by the Anti-vir-mc.com Scourge

The Anti-vir-mc.com website will not necessarily limit itself to malicious rogue product downloads. Anti-vir-mc.com may also hijack your browser to redirect you towards itself or other dangerous sites; in some instances, this can escalate so much that all safe websites are blocked. Be wary of 'dangerous website' error messages that occur for sites that you've previously confirmed to be safe, since this is a common sign of a browser hijacker problem.

Malware related to Anti-vir-mc.com may also gather information through keylogging or other spyware activities. These actions, although highly harmful, will not usually leave any overt traces behind, which makes preventing the infection from happening in the first place is critical.

Even simple tracking cookies and other minor problems can be caused by just visiting Anti-vir-mc.com without interacting with its interface. If you do accidentally go to Anti-vir-mc.com, scan your computer with all relevant security software to make sure you got out of there safely. Otherwise, you're risking both your privacy and the health of your system.
