Blackout is a computer worm parasite that utilizes mIRC chat clients to replicate. Through the use of IRC channels Blackout is able to spread to other systems. IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, is popularly used as a method of transferring real-time chat or text messages over the internet from computer to computer.

Malicious files are known to be spread through the use of Blackout and the IRC channels that it connects to. Many different chat client software applications are a target for Blackout and its destructive actions. It is necessary that a spyware tool be used to detect and safely remove the Blackout worm before it causes serious damages to the infected system.
