Facebook Suspended Account Message

Posted: July 5, 2011

The Facebook 'Suspended Account' message is a fake warning that's used by the W32.YimFoca worm to block access to your Facebook account. Although the Facebook 'Suspended Account' message tells you to fill out a survey to regain access, following this advice will only give money and potentially private information to criminals. Instead, remove the worm that causes Facebook 'Suspended Account' message by using a good anti-virus program. W32.YimFoca may also attempt to try similar scams with other social websites, rather than limiting itself to Facebook 'Suspended Account' message warnings.

How the Gears of the Facebook 'Suspended Account' Message Scam Spin

Facebook 'Suspended Account' message is created by an infection of the W32.YimFoca worm. This worm hijacks your web browser to make it appear as though the Facebook website has restricted your account usage. However, the Facebook 'Suspended Account' message leaves you an easy way out and tells you that all you have to do is fill out one of half a dozen survey options to get your account restored.

Filling out the survey as requested may send personal information (such as your email address) to criminals or, at the very least, drive revenue into criminal hands. Contact with websites that are related to Facebook 'Suspended Account' message attacks and similar scams may be, by itself, enough to cause other attacks on your computer, by way of drive-by download scripts. In some cases, you can avoid these scripts by turning off Flash and Java for websites that you don't trust.

Failing to fill out the Facebook 'Suspended Account' message survey will result in being punished with the following message:

You do not have access to you account because you do not complete any survey. Please come back later and tray again

The Limitations and Travel Methods of Facebook 'Suspended Account' Message Worms

W32.YimFoca can't create Facebook 'Suspended Account' message screens outside of Internet Explorer, and if you resort to an alternate browser, you should be able to access your account without hindrance. Getting rid of all Facebook 'Suspended Account' message problems only involves getting rid of W32.YimFoca, which can be deleted by any good and up-to-date anti-virus program.

Worms that use Facebook 'Suspended Account' message scams may also infect other PCs in two major ways, however:

  • Facebook 'Suspended Account' message worms may install themselves onto network-linked computers, whenever an uninfected computer accesses a shared folder with W32.YimFoca in it. YimFoca is very likely to copy its files to all shared folders automatically and hide those files with the System and Hidden attributes.
  • Facebook 'Suspended Account' message worms may also perform the same trick on removable drives. For example, this can include both CDs and USB flash cards.
