I-Worm.Magistr.b

Posted: March 28, 2006

Worm Magistr is an extremely dangerous Internet worm, that spreads in e-mails with infected executable attachments. It is very complex and has a highly destructive payload. For spreading it uses e-mail addresses found in a computer and some personal text documents, which can be attached to infected messages, so it is possible to disclose some of your information. On infected PCs the worm modifies several critical computer files and infects all found local and remote executable files. It also damages vulnerable PCs with shared resources from a local network.
After some time passed from the infection, the Magistr starts to affect the normal work of a computer: it gains access to the desktop and moves all icons on it. It also corrupts some executable files. After one month after infection the worm removes absolutely all data on hard disks and erases built-in PC's software, so in most cases an affected PC cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced.
The B version of this worm has an improved spreading functions, also infects files of some other types and erases all data in all possible environments. It is more difficult to recognize and cure the Magistr.b worm.
