Home Malware Programs Browser Hijackers Starsear.ch

Starsear.ch

Starsear.ch is a web browser hijacker that redirects you to malicious websites. Along with grabbing at your browser's reins, Starsear.ch is also more than happy to flood you with potentially dangerous advertisements and may even send private information to remote hackers. The dangers that Starsear.ch presents to your PC and privacy, make Starsear.ch a significant threat that should be removed as soon as you can do so. However, deleting or uninstalling Starsear.ch without assistance from an anti-virus program is strongly discouraged, since this may leave Regsitry entries and other Starsear.ch components intact on your computer.

Taking Your Web Browser Back from Starsear.ch

Starsear.ch, like all browser hijackers, will attempt to infect your PC without letting you notice that it's there in the first place. Starsear.ch may be installed in the form of a Browser Helper Object (or BHO) that attacks Internet Explorer, or simply lurk in the background as a hidden memory process that can attack multiple types of web browsers.

The majority of browser hijackers like Starsear.ch will redirect you towards a malicious search engine website or a homepage for a rogue security product. Avoid using the former, since these search engines will provide inaccurate, harmful or otherwise inaccurate results. Rogue security programs will also try to harm you in their own way, typically by pretending that your PC is infected and asking you to spend money to remove these fake infections.

Hijackers can redirect you spontaneously, when you click a link or when you try to visit an URL. Many hijackers like Starsear.ch are also capable of blocking websites by redirecting you away from them or creating fake error messages.

Other Starsear.ch Threats to Ward Off

Other Starsear.ch-related problems that may trouble you before you've removed Starsear.ch can include:

  • Advertisement pop-ups. Disabling Java and Flash is unlikely to stop the pop-ups themselves, but may prevent them from installing other malicious programs onto your computer. Advertisements may display system fake scanners or try to waylay you with fake contests, prizes and other offers.
  • Having Starsear.ch constantly present as a background memory process that refuses to be turned off. This can eat up system resources and degrade your computer's performance.
  • Having private information, such as your website destinations or account login data monitored and sent out to remote hackers. You may not see any symptoms that this attack is happening, since most harmful programs that contain spyware functions try to conceal these functions from sight.

The websites that Starsear.ch redirects you to may be sources of other infections, and Starsear.ch itself makes advanced changes to your PC such as altering the Windows Registry. Because of all these factors, when deleting Starsear.ch you should always use an appropriate anti-virus or security program whenever possible.
