Online phishing tactics can be threatening exceptionally, especially when they are widely spread, and target sensitive data such as your login for an online payment service. Needless to say, one of the most popular targets of phishing tactics is PayPal customers. One of the nastiest tactics of this type is the 'Your Account PayPal Has Been Limited' scam – it works by warning recipients that their profile has been limited, and they need to perform certain actions to remove the restrictions. Usually, the recipient is asked to visit a 'verification' page, which will, supposedly, help them solve the issue. However, the link points to a bogus PayPal page, which asks them to enter their username, password and other data. Of course, the information is not used to fix their account and, instead, it is delivered to the fraudsters who can then use it to empty their accounts.

Targets of the 'Your Account PayPal Has Been Limited' scam are usually approached via mass email spam campaigns. One of the easiest tricks to use to avoid tactics of this type is to remember that you should never follow links found in suspicious emails. For example, if you see a message regarding an issue with your PayPal account, do not follow the link inside – instead, type 'paypal.com' manually in your browser's address bar, and see if you have any pending account notifications or alerts. Usually, you will see that there is nothing with your account, and you were simply the target of a fraudulent message, which wants to take you to a phishing page.

Unfortunately, phishing tactics are difficult to filter out, and it is up to users to learn how to spot and avoid them. If you receive a message you suspect to be a part of a phishing tactic, you should report the sender and delete it from your inbox.
