Adultcameras.info is an adult movies website that recently has been benefiting from the promotional pop-ups and browser redirects of browser hijacking PUPs and threats. Although Adultcameras.info was registered late in 2014, browser hijackers for Adultcameras.info's services only seem to have been distributed since early in 2015. Any browser hijacker may endanger your PC and is a non-negligible impediment to your browsing quality-of-life, and malware researchers recommend using standard anti-malware tools for disinfecting any machine that's being redirected to Adultcameras.info automatically.

Adultcameras.info: An Awkward Picture of Your Web Browser

Although websites associated with browser-hijacking attacks aren't always threatening, the software responsible for such attacks typically degrades the safety of your browser in one or more ways. Adultcameras.info is one of the latest cases of a site without any hosted, toxic content of its own that, nevertheless, reoccurs routinely in both browser hijackings and pop-ups. All attacks to date have restricted themselves to Chrome and, notably, Valve's internal browser for its Steam gaming service. The latter also is built from WebKit: the same, free platform used for developing Chrome, which is most likely the basis for the browser hijackers' compatibility.

Although malware researchers haven't identified the installation methods in use for Adultcameras.info hijackers, all evidence found to date indicates that they are using bundling techniques. These install methods could consist of being bundled with legitimate software provided by third parties. Regardless of the original means of transportation, Adultcameras.info hijackers are identifiable by consistent symptoms that include:

  • Adultcameras.info hijackers may generate separate pop-up windows (or tabs) for Adultcameras.info automatically.
  • Adultcameras.info hijackers also may redirect you to Adultcameras.info from other sites, regardless of whether or not they're related to Adultcameras.info. Although the prerequisites for these redirects are somewhat variable, a typical trigger includes being redirected to Adultcameras.info immediately after you've clicked a link to another site.

Filtering Adultcameras.info out of Your Browsing Experience

Whether you're using Chrome as a default browser or browsing the Web with Steam while playing games, tolerating automatic redirects puts your browser at risk for loading other PC threats. Sites like Adultcameras.info, recently registered and protected by generic identity privacy services, also are common instigators of contact with advertisement-based attacks and deceiving tactics. Removing the source of Adultcameras.info redirects should be taken for granted as integral to keeping your browser safe from any future.

While standard advertisement-blocking services fail to block the current campaign of Adultcameras.info hijackings, anti-malware programs still should be able to identify and remove the sources of these attacks. As a final, cautionary note, malware researchers also have seen machines other than PCs targeted in these Adultcameras.info redirects. Some brands of mobile phones with Web-browsing capabilities also may be at risk for being redirected to Adultcameras.info, which shows how broad-reaching even a relatively simple hijacker's campaign may become.
