'Advance Payment Received' Email Virus

Posted: January 22, 2021

The 'Advance Payment Received' email virus is used to describe a new mass email spam campaign targeting email users worldwide. The fraudulent emails claim to contain a receipt for an advance payment the user has received. However, the '.docm' attachment is fake, and it does not include a legitimate document or data. Instead, it carries a corrupted script designed to deploy a copy of the Zloader banking Trojan, also known as Sphinx.

Users who fall for the tactic and open the corrupted attachment may introduce one of the most threatening Trojans to their computers unknowingly. Falling victim to Sphinx's attack may result in having your sensitive payment details and financial data stolen by cybercriminals. Needless to say, you should be wary of the 'Advance Payment Received' Email Virus, and remember not to open unknown email attachments.

You can rest assured that your bank or favorite financial institution will not send you email attachments about pending transactions and payments. Such messages should always be approached with caution, and they should be ignored if they try to convince you to download a file.
