Anubis Trojan

Posted: April 8, 2019

Malware investigators found a banking Trojan named Anubis, which is housed by two applications on the Google Play Store. The Anubis Trojan's server is encoded in Telegram and Twitter webpage requests, which conceal the compromised server. To find its way into a device, the Anubis Trojan will try to convince the user to install it pretending to be fake system updates or other applications that seem legit. If the users install the Anubis Trojan on their devices, their online banking information can be collected by the threat by recording the keystrokes or taking a screenshot of the user's screen, as well as other information kinds such as the user's contact list, etc.

It isn't the first time that the Anubis Trojan has appeared on the Google Play Store. It was there a while ago, was removed upon discovery, but managed to come back as strong as always. The ultimate variant of the Anubis Trojan was spread to 93 countries around the world and was capable of infecting almost four hundred financial application users in an attempt to collect their account data. The Anubis Trojan can cause a lot of harm to an unsuspected user, and this is why they should be very careful when allowing a new application to be downloaded on their devices.
