Atrax is a cybercrime kit, which is capable of stealing data, launching DDOS attacks and mining for Bitcoins. Atrax is at present being promoted on underground forums. The main platform of Atrax costs only $250 (€184). Atrax uses the TOR protocol to assure that C&C communications are secret. Atrax is capable of carrying out numerous tasks, such as launching DDOS attacks, gathering data from forms and web browsers, and mining Bitcoins and Litecoins. The main component of Atrax carries features that enable customers to install plugins, kill bots, make updates, and download and execute files. The download and execute commands can be done normally or through TOR. The downloaded files can also be executed directly in the memory. Each of the Atrax's components must be purchased separately. For instance, the DDOS add-on costs $90 (€66), the form grabber costs $300 (€220), while the cost of the reverse Socks add-on is $400 (€300). The Bitcoin mining plug-in is still experimental, but it can be bought for $140 (€100). The plug-ins are also created to communicate over TOR. The Atrax's author accepts payment only in Bitcoins. The attackers declare that Atrax is the first public bot that supports Windows 8, but security experts are not sure that this is true.
