ByWill.net Screenshot 1ByWill.net is a fake news website and search engine that features stolen content, advertisements and out-and-out non-functional features in exchange for your time. If you don't have a reason to return to ByWill.net once you've figured out what a hoax ByWill.net is, you may think that ByWill.net can't pose a threat to your PC – however, if your computer has been infected by a ByWill.net-affiliated browser hijacker, you may find that your browser returns to ByWill.net regardless of what you do. Browser redirects to ByWill.net may also be a symptom of infection by a high-level PC threat such as a rootkit that may also be equipped with less visible functions than its browser hijacks. Although the greatest care should be taken to detect and remove any possible ByWill.net-related rootkit or Trojan, you should use anti-malware products to accomplish this whenever the option is open for use.

ByWill.net: An Authentic-Seeming Scavenger of Content

ByWill.net offers a range of content, especially news articles, but although much of this content may be authentic, this is only due to ByWill.net having 'borrowed' it from reputable sources. Along with these carrots, ByWill.net also dangles search engine functionality enticingly at visitors, but diverse from legitimate search engines, ByWill.net doesn't make a habit of giving you safe or useful search results.

Browser redirects are the standard route of contact with ByWill.net, and can redirect your browser to ByWill.net after you click a link, after you navigate to an URL or even set ByWill.net to be your default homepage. Browser redirect attacks for ByWill.net are associated with rootkits (such as members of the Alureon family) that may also contain other features, including:

  • Keylogging and other forms of spyware functions that steal private information and transmit it to remote criminals.
  • Attacks against your network security, Windows firewall or anti-malware programs.
  • Other browser hijack-related risks, such as pop-ups, website-blocking error screens and changes to your web browser's settings.

Proving That Your Will is Stronger Than ByWill.net's Drive for Profit

At the end of the day, even slight exposure to ByWill.net or an affiliate of ByWill.net can cause additional attacks against your PC, especially including drive-by-downloads that install other forms of PC threats. SpywareRemove.com malware research team discourages any attempt to use your web browser until you've resolved any outstanding browser hijacker issues (preferably by using strong anti-malware scanners). Disabling Flash, disabling Java and installing all patches for your browser can also lower the chance of being subjected to browser-based attacks by ByWill.net-related PC threats.

Because most variants of ByWill.net-associated browser hijackers are also known to be rootkits, you should assume that they're active unless you've deliberately circumvented the usual startup routine for Windows. To disable rootkits so that they can be deleted with appropriate PC security software, Safe Mode or other methods of launching Windows in a secure fashion should always be used. Rootkits that are linked to ByWill.net may not show other symptoms of being active, including any form of independent memory process, and you should use anti-malware programs to detect any possible type of ByWill.net-aligned infection on your computer.
