The Clickorati Virus is a generic term for any browser hijacker that uses browser redirects and hijacks involving Clickorati.com. Recent variants of the Clickorati Virus use a combination of Registry-based changes and browser changes, including locking your homepage to Clickorati.com, to force you to use that site's fake search engine – a search engine that actually only provides advertisements and other questionable results. Contact with Clickorati.com is not especially harmful, but SpywareRemove.com malware experts do consider the Clickorati Virus, like all browser hijackers, to be a small security risk, and anti-malware applications always should be used to delete the Clickorati Virus as completely as possible.
Why What You Click Doesn't Matter to a Clickorati Virus
The Clickorati Virus is designed to take control of your browser through multiple methods, always with the purpose of redirecting you to Clickorati.com without your permission. SpywareRemove.com malware experts haven't seen any browser add-ons linked to the Clickorati Virus, which appears to be installed as a side effect of the installation of other kinds of PC threats and unrelated freeware applications. Symptoms linked to current formats of Clickorati Virus infections include:
- Having your homepage set to Clickorati.com.
- Being redirected to Clickorati.com whenever you try to use a different search site.
- Having Clickorati.com set as your browser's default 'new tab' page.
The Clickorati Virus also may monitor and collect basic information about you, such as your IP address and which sites you visit. Thankfully, SpywareRemove.com malware experts haven't seen the Clickorati Virus use these capabilities to attempt to steal passwords or other kinds of sensitive information, but the Clickorati Virus still does this without your permission and without offering an option for disabling the 'feature.'
The End of the Line for a Clickorati Virus's Redirects
The final destination in the Clickorati Virus's attacks, Clickorati.com, only was registered two months ago (as of May 2013) and should be browsed with caution. However, SpywareRemove.com malware research team hasn't seen evidence of sites promoted by the Clickorati Virus being used to distribute any kind of malicious content. In most cases, the greatest danger you'll face from a Clickorati Virus is some difficulty in searching the web and being exposed to an excess of advertisements.
Because standard Clickorati Virus infections don't display any software components to be deleted through standard methods, SpywareRemove.com malware experts suggest using good anti-malware programs to get rid of a Clickorati Virus safely. Browser hijackers like the Clickorati Virus never should be thought of as beneficial for your web-surfing experience, even if they redirect you to sites without any malicious content.
The Clickorati Virus's attacks aren't associated to any particular browser, although Windows-based systems most likely are at the greatest risk of being targeted for Clickorati.com redirects.
